Take a Walk

The concept of a car is mind blowing to me. Something so simple and common in our daily lives, yet when you think about all that went into that car- all the little pieces that work together when you turn the key. A vehicle that can get us from point A to point B in an incredibly short time. Don't get me wrong, I am grateful for the invention of the car. On a cold day, to be able to get here and there, or simply to go for a drive, I enjoy them all.

The concept of being able to not use a car- to be able to walk to all the places you need to be (with the exception of a few trams) is mind blowing to me. I've never lived in this way. Our legs, the original transportation invention. That without giving it a second thought, they can move us in any direction we please. At a slower rate, yes. However, it is really a great way to live.

Sometimes it means running if you're late instead of pushing the gas pedal a little harder. You'll end up sweaty or late but no driving violations involved and the only thing you are at risk of hurting is your lungs if you're out of shape (me...).

But when you're not running behind and the day is alive, walking gives you a chance to breathe. It gives you a chance to become familiar with areas instead of speeding through them. It gives you a chance to stop and to take in the budding trees and the first signs of spring, to see the people around you, to notice the buildings and the cobble stone sidewalks.

And the amount of steps you get in is an added bonus ;)

So today, I will walk. I will stop. I will breathe. I will take it in.

Walking through life more. Driving through life less.
